Guess what guys? I just went for my induksi. Yup, after 3 years in service. I had mine in a hotel in Sg. Petani. Attended with all the juniors. Went with low expectations after hearing all the stories from those who went before me. But it turned out to be all right (except for the exam of course). Tiring but not as hectic as I thought. Food was great. (I heard stories of how at one induksi, the same food was served over and over again). We didn't have a lot of variety each meal but different food was served almost everyday. We also had steamboat and barbecue dinner. The team building was fun. We also had repelling and flying fox. I hear not all centres have these facilities. My induksi only lasted for 12 days. And have yet to attend BTN. Organisers say they are having one in November and all of us who went for the induksi this time will get to go. Hope my head of department releases me.
Hear that we will know our results after one month but the paperwork for confirmation takes 1 - 1 1/2 years to settle. So, guess I won't be able to apply for Masters soon. The other thing is, they say it's easier to get transfer after being confirmed. Thinking of a change of environment since have been at same hospital since housemanship.

i've called siti rokiah many times. probably can get hold of her like 20% of the time. it's quite frustrating cos she will be just saying the thing was sent to spa n gotta call those guys there yadda yadda. by the way, she's a new girl if that gives anyone any further comfort.
apparently its not 2 weeks. the spa bunch needs 1 month to process the thing. my stuff's been in KKM since late july. got myself a confirmation date verbally told by some spa guy but no paper. equals zero progress.
my HR clerk has put me up for PTK 1. Hmmm....
anyone got any idea what we gotta read for that?
pls advice.
Happy Merdeka! remember to fly those stripes!

yes, getting our confirmation done is a hassle and they say waiting time to see dr is bad!
i'm sure by now, most of us have done our induction. after getting the certs, proper surat aku janji, med check-up and surat pengesahan lantikan jawatan, these set of papers will be sent to your state office which will make a cover letter and send it to KKM who will send it to SPA with another cover letter. And should u any time find a delay and ask them how's the progress, they will pick little problems in it and shift the blame to other ppl to cover their inadequecies.
Anyhow, in KKM, the person in charge now is cik siti rokiah. in SPA, there r different ppl in charge for different files. So, no specific names.
Yes, by choosing pencen scheme, we fall under another protocol where they process our pencen scheme applications and confirmation together hence the delay since like in my case, i got my forms signed before i completed 3 years. i had to send down the form back personally due to the lacking of knowledge in the management side.
well, good news is once u have the above forms sent to kkm and spa, they will each take 2 wks to process and should be sending back the documents on your confirmation. unfortunately, as our putrajaya is somewhere in bermuda triangle, postmen there have much difficulty travelling in and out of that zone.
till then, we can only pray for the brave postmen who are fighting part of the battle for us!
(alan went to putrajaya and has not heard frm him since. that was 2 weeks ago)

chiew leng, i n my whole desperate induksi gang bought school kids baju kurung (primary school) for BTN. i think we depleted the entire pangkor (our induksi was there before BTN).
we even bought big pieces of big white cloth-to pass off as selendang.
in the end, no need baju kurung or selendang. just white top n black or dark colored(better dark blue) pants or skirt. one cheap skate way - ask ur nurses to pinjam u la. i borrowed skirt from my staff.
never heard of BTN need for masters.
my PERMOHONAN for sah jawatan is still in SPA- just great!!!! seng kiat's one is somewhere in between ipoh and putrajaya- headed toward putrajaya n not back to ipoh unfortunately.
maybe partly due to our induksi in sept last year - late la
anyone know who to pester?
the lady i called (AINON) seemed bored and uninterested.
apparently, if u choose the pension option, ur permohonan for confirmation only can send from ur hospital once complete 3 years service. terrible.
our fates r in the hands of some pen pushers in cushy chairs.

BTN: it's actually in the circular that BTN is necessary for confirmation. but mostly applied to those who has not done their induction and they usually go for both at a time.
I just came back from BTN in Ulu Sepri, Rembau. It was great. we had it together with the jabatan penjara which was a blessing in disguise. Admittedly or not, doctors are not a very boisterous bunch. The prison officers surely lightened up the sessions. There was no brainwashing at all ( unless my skull too thick and i didn't get their brainwashing). No sensitive issues touched. Mainly more on how we should be loyal govt officers which i think is ok. Food not too great as i think they may have catered from my hosp - yucks and living conditions were so-so. We slept in double decker beds and had to share toilets like in UM hostel. We had separate cubicles and shower!!! (Expectations weren't to great)
Scenery was great. Surrounded by forest and had a river run through the camp site. Had line dancing instead of marching. Exams were logical and Kembara was fantastic! Best of all it actually rained. nice!
The truth is, i actually forced the JKNS to send me for BTN because I was tired of tagging daily - HAHA. Anyways, I have no regrets going and thankfully, my tagging finishes this thur!
To those who are contemplating bout going for BTN, better get it done now as it's better to go with ppl u r familiar with. As for my current group, I was with my juniors. still ok. Later, our bones will be less nimble and our brain may not be able to withstand the brainwashing as experienced in the other states. Go with open mind, and enjoy 5 days work-free and crap-talking!

Eh-hem, I see budding politicians here. By the way, are you guys compounding your lack of sleep by watching the world cup?
Carren, good to hear that you got what you wanted. How's Shin Yi? Has she applied for transfer?
Alan, long time no hear from you except for that utterly true sms on top 9 reasons why somebody wants to become a doctor. Are you still in Kuala Pilah?
Ah Ngou, long time no hear too.
Hope to hear more good news all around (people getting married, passing exams etc.)

many of our ancestors ran away from china generation ago.
does it mean that we have to do the same thing again.
we were born here for good or bad, we must not give it away easily.
if i were to die on this land of malaysia, i will fight for it not only for me but for our future generations.
so stay or migrate? still proud to be m'sia?

wa yap... DAP supporter?
what's in the blog is true, and i think most people knows it, consciously or subconsciously... the question is... what are we going to do or what can we do about it?
are we going to sit back idly and hope for the better, or leave the country for the dogs and run away...
are we willing to fight for change? however hard and impossible it may seem?

Chee Foo: hey, 1 mth tagging already good. others had to tag 2 mths. but not bad, can charge them passive call daily and each time they call me to go back and see something, i get to collect milage.
As for confirmation, mine only just departed from seremban on 1/6/06 but has not reached KKM yet. Crap la. i sent mail to UK and my friend already reached it in shorter time than that! Anyhow, keep on pestering them or deliver it yourself. I think this is like tracing blood results. can not trust the attendants. they will stop for marketing and a smoke before u get any back. better just go on your own.
Went for Basic surgical skills course with khaibeng few days ago. met up with Fariz. She's in paeds surg now and getting married in Dec to a Chinese muslim guy! Congrats to her!
I'm also going for BTN next wk. wish me luck! any advice before i get there?

sigh... no surprise tho, CC has extended my stay in A&E. Now I am to wait till the new ppl from district come to sban before i can go to ENT. But as i am waiting, 2 more ppl has joined A&E. next month, another 5. with only 2 working MOs in ENT, one would ask if logic even exists in the CC's head. Anyhow, I can not complain with the massive workforce in A&E as well as shift hours.Life is definitely still bearable! :-D

greetings from sban. I'm now in A&E. Apparently the medical dept is critically short with 20 MOs (previously they were doing fine with 10). So, instead of sending me to med, CC has delayed my entry into ENT by sending me to casualty for two weeks. Apparently to appease the medical specialists.
On the other hand, casualty is not too bad as we have 18 MOs including me. Only problem is i am too old for tagging. It is really exhausting. Lucky only 3 days. Day 2 today and counting down. Only hope they won't forget and just leave me to rot in A&E!

Added RSS site feed for the blog...
what this means is that if u have a new aggregattor or are using Mozilla Firefox live bookmarks, u can just view any updates on your news aggregator, no need come to the webpage...
so hows everyone? so quiet? all bored to death? or in places without internet?
going to be 3 years since we started housemanship, time flies

Probably quiet because nothing new to share. Life quite routine: Work, rest, on call, sleep, work again. Anyway, flying to Kuching next week for perinatal conference. I just realized that it's been almost 5 years since I went to Kuching for Baktisiswa. Too bad no one else our batch is going. Or else can 'lepak' together. Anyway, probably can see you guys in other courses to come.

Happy Chinese New Year!
We are back in Malaysia. Will start work on Sunday. Had a great time in the cities of New York and Chicago. Went to many historical, artistic and contemporary tourist attractions. NY is as diverse, fast-pace and exciting as what we see on Friends/Seinfeld/Sex and the City/The Apprentice/numerous other movies. Chicago is a slower pace metropolis and is a nicer place to have a family. We saved a lot of money by renting a Columbia University student's room.
About two-thirds of foreign medical graduates in the States are Indian nationals. During the tour of the wards (as part of the interview itinerary), the Indian graduates were going like, 'oh that's my senior over there, oh that physician is an alumni of my medical school, etc'. Apparently, Indian medical students take the USMLE by bulk during their medical school, and there is a mass exodus to USA/UK every year upon graduation. The quality of these graduates vary greatly (as we all already know - we do work with a lot of HO or MOs who went to India to study medicine). Some of them are mainly targeting a green card. Doctors in my position will be eligible to apply for a PR status within 3 years, and then go into private practice after the 3-year specialty training. (But I will be aiming for a subspecialty fellowship after the initial 3-year training). India is really exporting their doctors to USA. Other foreign doctors are from Central and South America, and Philippines. Surprisingly, USA also recruits doctors from the Middle East (Syria, Lebanon, Iran) despite all the Sept 11, Iraq and Palestine political issues.

Hi everyone!!
Happy Chinese New Year!
We are writing this in Chicago! I am offered a resident position in the New York Medical College-Metropolitan Hospital Internal Medicine program! I will undergo 3 years training in Internal Medicine and then hope to get into a subspecialty fellowship program after that. I will start July 1st 2006. Seow Voon will wait for an offer until March.
And yes, we are expecting a baby girl this May! We are so looking forward to have her.
Truly, a year of great change. Sure, difficult times lie ahead, but it we will persevere and make it big.
Catch up with you guys when we get back.

Happy New Year! Happy New Year! The end of the year was a great time for movies. Those of you who haven't watched Harry Potter: Goblet of Fire and Chronicles of Narnia, go watch! 1st of January is not a public holiday in Kedah, and I'm on call. So sad. Oh, the flood crisis here is over, thankfully. My house wasn't affected, or I'd still be cleaning up, and we didn't have to transfer patients to other hospitals. Anyone of you coming to Penang during Chinese New Year and want to meet up?

Gho-st: Thanks, will look up resources on the internet on how to do it.
Where's everyone by the way? Is everyone busy at new work environments, quietly studying for exams, off for festive holidays, or having new things coming up on personal life etc?
Up here in Kedah, it looked like Katrina in some parts like Jitra and the northern districts, but the water is now subsiding. The main road of Hospital Alor Star is closed today because of possibility of rising water levels. The hospital main road is beside this river which is overspilling. But the situation is getting better these few days and I don't think there will be any serious disruption in Alor Star. Seow Voon's house is on the southern part of Bandar Alor Star, and not near to any main rivers, so the house is not affected.

anyway, if u interested to go see proboscis monkey and river cruise... check out http://www.sukau.com/ or http://www.uncletan.com/
the first one cost about 450 per pax for 3 day 2 night if u can get to its jetty yourself. Nice accommodation, all meals included. the second one more basic, like camping, no proper water and electricity but cost only 250 with transport. so if u bringing ur girl... better the first one laaa...
Sandakan otherwise nothing to see one, got one nice English Tea house, but town like phillipines settlement... Sepilok Orang Utan reserve is about 16km away, feeding time is 1030 and 230 i think. Can stay in nature resort opposite Sepilok reserve, about 100 for nice room with breakfast for 2.

HI guys....few jokes here to cheer us all up:
Just browsing
A blind man and his seeing eye dog walked into a store. When he gets in, he starts swinging his dog around. Upset by this, the manager of the store demanded to know what he was doing. The blind man calmly replied, "I'm just lookin' around."
Dead Dog
A man wakes up to find his dog, dead, lying next to the bed on the floor. He doesn't believe his dog is dead, so he takes him to the vet, and the vet says, ''I'm sorry, but your dog is dead.'' The man doesn't believe him and says, ''I want a second opinion.'' The doctor goes into the back and brings out a cat. The cat jumps all over the dog and bites it and says to the vet, ''Meeoowrr.'' The vet says again, ''I'm sorry, sir, your dog is dead.'' The man says, ''No, I want another opinion.'' So the doctor brings out a Laborador Retriever and he jumps all over the dead dog and tugs at it and barks at it and says to the vet, ''Rrrrr.'' The vet says, ''I'm sorry, sir, but your dog is dead. that will be 500 dollars.'' ''$500 to tell me my dog is dead?'' asks the man. ''Well,'' the vet replies, ''I'm 100 dollars, the cat scan was 300 and the lab test was 200 dollars.''
The Scent of An Old Woman
A haggard old lady is riding in a posh hotel's elevator. On the second floor, a beautiful woman steps on, smelling divine. She arrogantly says to the old lady, "Georgio, $100 an ounce."
On the next floor, an equally beautiful women steps on, smelling lovely as well. She turns to the two other women and says, "Chanel, $150 an ounce."
The old lady's floor is approaching and as the doors open, she looks at the two young ladies, bends over, farts and says, "Broccoli, 49 cents a pound."
The Judge
A judge asks a defendant to please stand. "You are charged with murdering a school teacher with a chain saw." From out in the audience a man shouts, "You lying bastard!"
"Silence in the court!" the judge shouted back. He turns to the defendant again and says, "You are also charged with killing a paperboy with a shovel."
"You goddamned tightwad!" blurted the spectator.
"Quiet!" yelled the judge. "You are also charged with killing a mailman with an electric drill."
"You cheap son of a..." the man starts to shout.
The Judge thunders back "If you don't tell me the reason for your outbursts right now, I will hold in contempt!"
"I've lived next to that lying bastard for ten years now, but do you think he ever had a f*****g tool when I needed to borrow one!"
Texan Poetry
The finals of the National Poetry Contest last year came down to two finalists. One was a San Francisco State University graduate from an upper-crust family; well-bred, well-connected and all that goes with it. The other finalist was a redneck from Texas A & M. Go figure.
The rules of the contest required each finalist to compose a four-line poem in one minute or less, and the poem had to contain the word “Timbuktu.”
The San Francisco State graduate went first. About thirty seconds after the clock started he jumped up and recited the following poem: “'Slowly across the desert sand
Trekked the dusty caravan.
Men on camels, two by two
Destination -- Timbuktu.”
The audience went wild! How, they wondered if the redneck could top that?! The clock started again and the redneck sat in silent thought. Finally, in the last few seconds, he jumped and recited:
“Tim and me, a-huntin' went.
Met three whores in a pop-up tent.
They was three, we was two,
So I bucked one and Timbuktu”
English Patient
An English guy was very ill and his son went to visit him in the hospital. Suddenly, the father began to breathe heavily and grabbed the pen and pad by the bed. With his last ounce of strength he wrote a note, dropped it, and died.
The son was so overcome with grief that he didn't remember slipping the note into his pocket. At the funeral, he reached into the pocket of his coat and immediately felt the note. He excitedly read it thinking it might be something he could recite during the service. It said:
YOU WANKER -- GET OFF MY OXYGEN PIPE!!!

yes, house is definitely highly recommended. his sarcasm will be the downfall for our communication skills tutor. because he has proven we don't need it to be a doctor. best of all, his motto is "never trust patients" hence there isn't really a need to clerk pts!
u think ismail merican will ban this show in malaysia soon?

Do you guys watch House M.D. on AXN? Though the diagnoses are far-fetched, it is an interesting resource for MRCP candidates. The cynical, sarcastic,dark-humored physician in the drama is interesting to watch. There is so much medical jargon in the drama that I doubt lay-people can understand it fully.
