NEW YORK, May 18 — The banners are being unfurled one last time and the barricades stormed for one last battle. Sunday was the final day on Broadway for “Les Miserables,” after more than 16 years and 6,680 performances, second only to “Cats” as Broadway’s longest-running show. Based on Victor Hugo’s epic novel, the musical originally cost $4.5 million to produce and opened on March 12, 1987. It won eight Tony Awards and was a staggering box-office success.
