Hi everyone!!

Happy Chinese New Year!

We are writing this in Chicago! I am offered a resident position in the New York Medical College-Metropolitan Hospital Internal Medicine program! I will undergo 3 years training in Internal Medicine and then hope to get into a subspecialty fellowship program after that. I will start July 1st 2006. Seow Voon will wait for an offer until March.

And yes, we are expecting a baby girl this May! We are so looking forward to have her.

Truly, a year of great change. Sure, difficult times lie ahead, but it we will persevere and make it big.

Catch up with you guys when we get back.

HaPPY NEW year everyone!

Thursday, December 29, 2005

Happy New Year! Happy New Year! The end of the year was a great time for movies. Those of you who haven't watched Harry Potter: Goblet of Fire and Chronicles of Narnia, go watch! 1st of January is not a public holiday in Kedah, and I'm on call. So sad. Oh, the flood crisis here is over, thankfully. My house wasn't affected, or I'd still be cleaning up, and we didn't have to transfer patients to other hospitals. Anyone of you coming to Penang during Chinese New Year and want to meet up?

happy new year everyone!
carren: wont brag about the work load, coz we r just new, so work load is rather lepak, at the moment. the best part is we all know each other before this, so workin together is no problem there. the only thing i'l brag is my hostel unit... 3 rooms, plus a maid room, store room, kitchen, n living room, furnished. all by myself.. ha!!!!!! (evil laugh)
but anyway, will b goin back to perak later next year, so dun really matter anymore.

Monday, December 26, 2005

wen jih: so how r u? how is it really in jempol? hw is the pt load like? Joe Ann (our common friend from SBan) met Hans and he was bragging again. Thought better to hear from u yourself!

everybdy: merry christmas and have a wonderful new year. may the new year usher in all that u wish for!

Sunday, December 25, 2005

Heres to a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year everyone!!! many happy returns for the year ahead

n a happy new year!

Wednesday, December 21, 2005

Gho-st: Thanks, will look up resources on the internet on how to do it.

Where's everyone by the way? Is everyone busy at new work environments, quietly studying for exams, off for festive holidays, or having new things coming up on personal life etc?

Up here in Kedah, it looked like Katrina in some parts like Jitra and the northern districts, but the water is now subsiding. The main road of Hospital Alor Star is closed today because of possibility of rising water levels. The hospital main road is beside this river which is overspilling. But the situation is getting better these few days and I don't think there will be any serious disruption in Alor Star. Seow Voon's house is on the southern part of Bandar Alor Star, and not near to any main rivers, so the house is not affected.

How do I add pictures on a newly created blog of mine? You know, like the Star Wars stuff on the left hand side of this blog?

Sunday, December 11, 2005

Kaiinn: u be in KK then? then can meet up lo... if u going sandakan only then susah lor...

anyway, if u interested to go see proboscis monkey and river cruise... check out http://www.sukau.com/ or http://www.uncletan.com/

the first one cost about 450 per pax for 3 day 2 night if u can get to its jetty yourself. Nice accommodation, all meals included. the second one more basic, like camping, no proper water and electricity but cost only 250 with transport. so if u bringing ur girl... better the first one laaa...

Sandakan otherwise nothing to see one, got one nice English Tea house, but town like phillipines settlement... Sepilok Orang Utan reserve is about 16km away, feeding time is 1030 and 230 i think. Can stay in nature resort opposite Sepilok reserve, about 100 for nice room with breakfast for 2.

call me la when u get to kk
merry christmas to all!

Sunday, December 04, 2005

HI guys....few jokes here to cheer us all up:

Just browsing
A blind man and his seeing eye dog walked into a store. When he gets in, he starts swinging his dog around. Upset by this, the manager of the store demanded to know what he was doing. The blind man calmly replied, "I'm just lookin' around."

Dead Dog
A man wakes up to find his dog, dead, lying next to the bed on the floor. He doesn't believe his dog is dead, so he takes him to the vet, and the vet says, ''I'm sorry, but your dog is dead.'' The man doesn't believe him and says, ''I want a second opinion.'' The doctor goes into the back and brings out a cat. The cat jumps all over the dog and bites it and says to the vet, ''Meeoowrr.'' The vet says again, ''I'm sorry, sir, your dog is dead.'' The man says, ''No, I want another opinion.'' So the doctor brings out a Laborador Retriever and he jumps all over the dead dog and tugs at it and barks at it and says to the vet, ''Rrrrr.'' The vet says, ''I'm sorry, sir, but your dog is dead. that will be 500 dollars.'' ''$500 to tell me my dog is dead?'' asks the man. ''Well,'' the vet replies, ''I'm 100 dollars, the cat scan was 300 and the lab test was 200 dollars.''

The Scent of An Old Woman
A haggard old lady is riding in a posh hotel's elevator. On the second floor, a beautiful woman steps on, smelling divine. She arrogantly says to the old lady, "Georgio, $100 an ounce."
On the next floor, an equally beautiful women steps on, smelling lovely as well. She turns to the two other women and says, "Chanel, $150 an ounce."
The old lady's floor is approaching and as the doors open, she looks at the two young ladies, bends over, farts and says, "Broccoli, 49 cents a pound."

The Judge
A judge asks a defendant to please stand. "You are charged with murdering a school teacher with a chain saw." From out in the audience a man shouts, "You lying bastard!"
"Silence in the court!" the judge shouted back. He turns to the defendant again and says, "You are also charged with killing a paperboy with a shovel."
"You goddamned tightwad!" blurted the spectator.
"Quiet!" yelled the judge. "You are also charged with killing a mailman with an electric drill."
"You cheap son of a..." the man starts to shout.
The Judge thunders back "If you don't tell me the reason for your outbursts right now, I will hold in contempt!"
"I've lived next to that lying bastard for ten years now, but do you think he ever had a f*****g tool when I needed to borrow one!"

Texan Poetry
The finals of the National Poetry Contest last year came down to two finalists. One was a San Francisco State University graduate from an upper-crust family; well-bred, well-connected and all that goes with it. The other finalist was a redneck from Texas A & M. Go figure.
The rules of the contest required each finalist to compose a four-line poem in one minute or less, and the poem had to contain the word “Timbuktu.”
The San Francisco State graduate went first. About thirty seconds after the clock started he jumped up and recited the following poem: “'Slowly across the desert sand
Trekked the dusty caravan.
Men on camels, two by two
Destination -- Timbuktu.”
The audience went wild! How, they wondered if the redneck could top that?! The clock started again and the redneck sat in silent thought. Finally, in the last few seconds, he jumped and recited:
“Tim and me, a-huntin' went.
Met three whores in a pop-up tent.
They was three, we was two,
So I bucked one and Timbuktu”

English Patient
An English guy was very ill and his son went to visit him in the hospital. Suddenly, the father began to breathe heavily and grabbed the pen and pad by the bed. With his last ounce of strength he wrote a note, dropped it, and died.
The son was so overcome with grief that he didn't remember slipping the note into his pocket. At the funeral, he reached into the pocket of his coat and immediately felt the note. He excitedly read it thinking it might be something he could recite during the service. It said:
YOU WANKER -- GET OFF MY OXYGEN PIPE!!!

yes, house is definitely highly recommended. his sarcasm will be the downfall for our communication skills tutor. because he has proven we don't need it to be a doctor. best of all, his motto is "never trust patients" hence there isn't really a need to clerk pts!
u think ismail merican will ban this show in malaysia soon?
Do you guys watch House M.D. on AXN? Though the diagnoses are far-fetched, it is an interesting resource for MRCP candidates. The cynical, sarcastic,dark-humored physician in the drama is interesting to watch. There is so much medical jargon in the drama that I doubt lay-people can understand it fully.

sigh... i put up a bunch of crap about diabetes, mental health and HEMORRHOIDS. My room now really looks like a clinic now. Damn it!

my boss says must put up posters because state pengarah coming on monday. right now my walls are bare. anyone knows where i can get harry porter posters or narnia posters?

Sunday, November 27, 2005

now tat is new.. wonder how would i react if someone slap me... which newspaper was tis?

Saturday, November 26, 2005

Do you guys know more details on the incident where UH female anesth MO was slapped by an (assh*le) cardiothoracic surgeon? I just read about the news with repulse on the newspaper. If my wife is being slapped by anyone, with or without bloody gloves, it will be more than his glasses that will be broken. That surgeon must be one of those whose culture is that women must be obedient and cannot defy men; and when women defy men, it is justifiable for them to be beaten by man.

Another news that made me feel disgusted is the targeting of Chinese ladies by perverted policemen and their female accomplices. If they are so horny, why don't they just f**k each other in the police station.

And UM dropping in ranking among the universities in the world? I am not surprised, not surprised at all.

Excuse me for all these negative energy.

Monday, November 21, 2005

u know what lee kien? perakians talk like that too. or at least those in teluk intan and manjung area. i used to ask my patients "depa tu siapa??" penat is a hot fav here too. i've asked various pakcik n makciks "bila jalan, penat tu penat kat kaki ke penat sbab susah napas?"(yeah talking kinda like them too, i have some problem taking history in english these days. feels n sounds funny) on the same topic, anyone knows the meaning of the word "anu"??-fav among teluk intanians.
canker in the shadows n apokalypse-reveal urselfs!!

Tuesday, November 15, 2005

shall update regarding the new hosp later. but quaters is really cun. each one will get a unit which consist of 1 masterbedroom, 2 common rooms n 1 maid room, 1 store room, kitchen, n living room. furnished.. think will rotate sleepin in each room each day.

Tuesday, November 08, 2005

why wen jih publish blank post? maybe jempol has prob with internet line?
so, how is it there (as pengarah?)
haha seokhong....slangs here in sabah is something to get used to too.....i.e.

ppl here says things like...."dia 'bilang' dia datang hari dua" or...."mereka 'bilang' tidak perlu makan sebelum ......."
(bilang means 'kata'.....) so there'll be us 'west'eners who wonders why the sabahans are always counting (bilang here and there)

Monday, November 07, 2005

Just to add to the 'loghat' thing, when I first started working in Alor Setar, and asked the staff nurse for something, she asked me back "Laa ni?" I was totally confused but later found out that "Laa" means immediately or now. PAP does mean person accompanying patient, as Chee Foo says.
Haven't fully recovered from my EOD call during Raya. First day wasn't bad, even though slept for less than 2 hours. 2nd call, in NICU and SCN, intubated 4 babies; running 12 ventilators. Luckily they were all quite stable.
Chee Foo, count me in for the Lembah Bujang/Gunung Jerai thing. But let me know in advance as the only exercise I've been doing lately has been ward rounds and running to OT/ Labour room.
Chiew Leng, Chong Tien and Wen Jih, waiting to hear from you guys about your new hospitals.

Sunday, November 06, 2005

Hi,
Happy Deeparaya to everybody, or is it bz oncall until no time to Raya?
I'm oncall the whole wkend. Been making multiple trips to hospital everyday, setlling cases like stuck ketupat or kids swallowing their duit raya...sigh...even the oncall claim cant cover my petrol money..

But i still manage to go picnic with my wife at Lembah Bujang(yes, where all those candi-candi we learn in Form % is) and Tupah. Found out that there this interesting trail fr Lembah Bujang to Summit of Gunung Jerai ,will take 1 whole day trip, to and fro. Heard the staff said that the trail was challenging but safe and easy to follow. So, anybody interested for some jungle trekking and mountain climbing??? Mayb we can do it on some wkend,ok?? Do contact me if interested.

Yong: if i'm not mistaken, the SN once tell me that PAP meant Person Accompanying Patient, thus is their family members

Ciau...hope to hear fr u guys again.

Saturday, November 05, 2005

Another term used in Hospital Alor Star, and probably the state of Kedah, is "P.A.P" - referring to 'patient's family'. What exactly PAP stands for, I don't know. I have never heard the use of this term in Negeri Sembilan.

Wednesday, November 02, 2005

greetings all!
me n chong tien just reported duty today (yea right smack in between of holidays) in Hospital Likas, KK.

i m lucky to have reported in today,.....got the next few days off!
also, since there's no radiologist in this hospital...i m expected to be 'acting' head of dept....does this mean more money?! ka chink!....but boohoo.....admin work!....that's sabah.....multitasking....some MOs becomes head of unit...lack of specialist to fill up posts...
hope to come home to kl in xmas time....catch up wit some of u guys i hope!
happy deeparaya!!!
bet the roads wil b jammed, same with ortho wards... enjoy the long break.. so envy those in kk who is getting a week break... fear not for those in hosp,... for there r lots of non indian or muslim who is working along in these time of holiday, so u r not alone...(just think of the call claim)...

yong, don't forget semput for SOB too. i think mengah is a negeri thing cos it's used in sban and tampin. =}
Hi guys,

For the e-book thing, I guess the best way would be to mail by post a hard copy on a CD to you. That's because the Harry Potter books alone is nearly 10Mb in PDF. Tell you what ... put your postal address on the blog or send your postal address to my email (yonglk98@tm.net.my), and I will burn them on a CD and mail them to you.

The loghat Kedah is peculiar for a Negeri person like me. Air is pronounced ayaq. Any words ending with the letter L will be pronounced I. Example: sambal - sambai, cendol - cendoi, tinggal - tinggai. There is also this habit of using the word 'na' at the end of sentences to make the statement sound more berbudi bahasa. Example: 'saya balik dulu naa' or 'makcik mesti makan ubat tiap-tiap hari naa'. The word 'depa' means 'them/they (mereka)'. So 'deeparaya' in Kedah actually sounds like 'mereka raya' not 'kita raya', a jest mentioned by most Kedahan.

The word for shortness of breath in Kedah is 'penat'. Penat does not mean the conventional 'tired' or 'lethargy' in Kedah. In Kuala Pilah, 'mengah' means SOB. Wonder what interesting words is used for SOB in other states/daerah?

hi everybody,
Dis Sat will b my wedding dinner again (female side) at Taiping. I believe all of you had known oredi. So happy dat Wen Jih, Yap, Seok Hong, Ling Sze, FAn Yin n hubby will b able to join me, though hope dat more of you, my beloved frens can join, but all your blessings suffice though.

Adeline: So nice to hear dat you'v met my wife and like her :) . She said that u and Seng Kiat were like pinang dibelah dua, always studious and serious. She was afraid to approach u due to the seriousness of u two....hehe...she haven met the funny side of u yet...

Yong: would like to have some of your e-books too, but dun think i hav much to share, except mayb my wedding photos.....hehe..

Really miss u guys....hope v can hav a gathering or something soon...
oops..
suddenly, both my posts appear. sorry for repeating myself ok ppl?
happy raya n deepavali on calls.
hi ya!!
hmm... finally someone reinvited me to the blog after months of me sneaking in using carren's account. posted something 2 days ago but message din turn up. looks like everyone's busy collecting their certs n wat nots for masters next year. dunno if i'd be applying next year. too inadequate cert wise(just did induksi last month) n knowledge n experience wise here.
been wanting to tell u all this, only manage to brag to alan n carren. he he. i did repelling/abscailing down a 3 storey high tower!!during BTN la. yeah it's a big deal for me cos i'm fraid of heights. no doubt those fellas in charge could have brought down someone who fainted easily n safely down but i was ready to BO/PU etc in my pants. yan wei however, was pissed off that she was not allowed to descend fast in 3 gigantic leaps.
met chee foo's honey during induksi. she's a real bright, energetic n cute girl. also very good girl that sit in front row n really listen to lectures, while i join the sweet sucking n day dreaming gang few rows behind her.
glad to hear so many of you r back from the wilderness. my deep respect to u all. i think it takes really something to work as a real peripheral MO with no specialist to consult at all. me, i'm just wondering when our pengarah will chuck me out to hospital without specialist or klinik kesihatan having just escape transfer to hosp parit buntar bout 6 months ago.
carren, i've read the 4 dan brown books too n enjoyed them very much. in fact, i finished the da vinci code in 1 day.
happy to have access to the blog once more, missed the nonsensical n very original crap here.

Monday, October 24, 2005

hi guys,
this is the first time in a long time that i'm writing in my name, thanks to ju ann who invited me back into the blog though she and many others may regret it later.
have met ah ngou's 'honey' during my induksi. unfortunately couldnt take good care of her as our ketua facilitator was a pain in the a** and loooooveeeed checking on her charges to make sure we amalkan gaya hidup sihat ie senaman at 630am daily n no snoozing during riadah. pleased to have met her(i mean chee foo's wife, not the facilitator), she's a bright, cute and petite lady.

have been bursting to tell u guys this nearly month old news(but had no access to this blog). i did repelling/abscailing down a tower bout 3 storeys high. woo hoo!! have fear of heights so was darned scared in the begining but had fun once i was underway. yeah, n yanwei ran 2km in 11minutes plus while i took significantly longer n had right sided chest pain n severe myalgia doing the same thing. all part n parcel of BTN. but no, u dont need to mandi berkemban(ie bath beramai ramai wearing sarongs up to armpit level like in those kampung shows)
was wearing baju kurung putih(one for 5 days heh heh) n sarong dark blue too-my bunch of induksi BTN ppl must have depleted pangkor island of school uniforms in september. very yucky looking. yanwei was my group member during LDK n so was kong wai hong.
Did BTN at ulu kenas KBN in kuala kangsar. Beautiful site in a forest reserve where u can hear monkeys' cries in the morning as opposed to rooster crowing. 24h of natural aircon too. Nice waterfall but we were forbidden to play there-supposed to be dangerous cos it rained upstream. HP reception poor though. ex commandos were the urusetia-they were surprisingly nice, very professional.

alan, thanks lots for those contoh soalan. we had no hope of passing without ur help.back to the present, sorry to be this blur but wat is APC??? n chiew leng, do u mean we gotta gather our induksi cert, MMC permanent practicing cert and surat lantikan penuh n pengesahan ketua jabatan then send up all these 3 documents to our clerk to apply for pengesahan dalam jawatan? man... we dont have to work is it? got so much of time to spend tracing paper??
i'm confused. someone pls reveal the secret identity of apokalypse n canker in the shadows n also john the baptist? especially as i'm supposed to have gone shopping for some microscopic attire with one of them.
it's real late now need to go snoozy. bye n nighty night. have a cool call those of u out there.

Sunday, October 23, 2005

greetings!

Saturday, October 22, 2005

yong: sound great. i've been trying to download from the BT site but failed for harry potter 1-6 and the chronicle of nardia
how can i get those file from you?
Unfortunately, being the only non-Malay MO in my department, I will be doing some EOD call during this festive holidays. But the good thing is that there will be no problem getting leaves for Chinese New Year and other occasions.

Maybe this blog can also serve as a file-sharing portal. It will be great if we can list down the stuff we have, and help save each other's time searching for and downloading them. The following are digital files that I have. Anyone interested can just contact me, and we will work out how to transfer the files.
1. Harry Potter books 1-6 (including Half-Blood Prince) PDF
2. Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code (PDF), Deception Point (PDF) and Angels and Demons (TXT)
3. Eoin Colfer's Artemis Fowl Book 2 (TXT) and Book 3 (PDF)
4. Chronicles of Narnia (all 7 books)(PDF)
5. Robert Kiyosaki's Rich Dad Poor Dad (PDF)
6. Numerous previously subscribed MRCP Part 1 MCQs
7. Spencer Johnson's Who Moved My Cheese (PDF)

raya is coming and deepavali is at the corner.
isn't it wonderful to live is a country full of festivals and celebrations?
is it about partying or hang over or open house free food that we enjoy?
journey home or ' balik kampung' i think is a very special word or event in the hearts of all malaysian.
to show that we malaysian live for many reasons but home definitely is the far most important than others
to share the happiness among families and friends or perhaps it is just the journey to home that you take everyyear make it a special memory in life.
so drive safely or say a simple prayer before you journey home
misorere nobis

(haha, i hope JPJ will buy my slogan for this year road safety campaign!)

hmmm, and in KK u will have legitimate mailing address, and a proper mailbox!

Sunday, October 16, 2005

hmmm... tampin sure sounds like Keningau, where cars are zipping by at an average speed of 30km/hour on a loooooooong strrraaaaight road...

good thing i am moving to KK where the average speed is about 5 km/hour more... hooray

nothin beats my patients. they dun need cars. they walk. i had patient tat walk all the way to the south, got caught in melaka.
btw, master prog offer came out tis month. u need 3 years of workin (include houseman) to apply, so prepare everything, next year is the year.
hmmm, in tampin, cars roll at the speed of 20km per hour.
meaning running children can dent protons.
good point is the main road of the city is only about 5km.
meaning only 15mins to get to the other side of town! (faster o walk though) =)
Another thing that they should teach their kids in Kemahiran Hidup is road safety. I dunno about other places, but here in Alor Star, in town or kampung, some adults don't hold their kids' hands while walking at roadsides. And those kids, being kids, can just run/jump without reason. On the roads, the pedestrians have the mentality that cars should see them, and should give way to them. You know, they cross the road despite seeing you coming on the car, and expect you to slow down for them. This is no joke because you can be beaten up and your car set on fire, if you accidentally knock them. They are so unaware of their surroundings, they can't hear the rumble of the car engines beside/behind them.

Well put Carren, only when u r out in the less "well equipped" places do u know how deficient they are.

The MAs in these places are doing a good job with what little resources they have. I know here in Sabah many of the Clinics are only staffed with MAs. They do what they can, who can blame them if they do make some mistakes? being in a district is an eye opening experience, then only u understand when cases are referred with this and that not done... its becoz ppl in the district are incapable of doing it. so credit to the MAs, they are a very needed supporting health personnel in the Malaysia health system.

On a brighter side... no more need for PTK for U44, U48 promotion! so go get ur postgrad!!

Sunday, October 09, 2005

well, i don't know about u guys, being in H. Tampin has shown me that the MAs are actually good. they function like us in A&E. in fact their experience definitely outweighs ours. during calls at night, i hardly get called by the senior MAs.they manage everything and i can say they perform better than some doctors.

So, most times, I find that they do the work we do, why not get the same pay as us too? It is only fair that we appreciate the work they do, especially when not many ppl who have spent the so called five years studying are not willing to go to the districts.

yan wei: the putrajaya mmc phone no is as below. call it if u havent got ur full reg. apc is a different thing n surat perlantikan also something diff...... settle one thing by one thing

kai inn: hmmmm... true tat the world is full of psychotic ppl. including those in my ward, those in the admin, everywhere.

ps. ramly burger still sounded very nice.
one thing's definite. the new place in putrajaya doesn't have a line. personally i think it's a scam to prevent us from calling them. i haven't got my surat lantikan yet either. according to the clerk in my office she will settle it for me but i'm bugging her once weekly just to make sure. until she gets sick of seeing me and settle the problem. i actually got the permanent cert from MMC quite some time ago. that wasn't a problem as long as you hand in your log books early and your clerk does the paper work.

just finish BTN. joined adeline, seng kiat and sathiya. saw your wife chee foo but unfortunately didn't have time to talk to her. sorry bout that. the whole damn course is quite upsetting so my advice to all who have not been:go early ..don't wait until your frustrations grow as you work in the ministry.

just wondering.....the private sector is now paying MOs between RM6000-Rm7000 a month. do you suppose we could work in the private sector and become a private candidate for masters?

Friday, October 07, 2005

Kai Inn: Dun Worry.....I'm like u too...support u all the way.Why work so hard and loss all that's important in your life....dun think the world can lastmuch longer anyway with all the pollution, war, terrorism, natural disaster, unnatural disaster.......

I haven got my induksi cert and results yet even though went to the indulsi in May. APC??...duno when can get. Full registration cert...been calling since April,to no avail. Actually have the feelings that Gov not really appreciating wat we r doing. Now they say MA also can get U41 if they study for a degree (which v took 5 YEARS to get that grade)......

FEELING VERY DISGUSTED WITH FANATICAL TERRORIST ACTIVITIES

Wednesday, October 05, 2005

wah wah, everybody sound so serious leh!!
i am so surprise leh. where is all the fantasy and dream and poem gone??
just came back from Induksi and BTN course. no comment la. it was just unrecorded leave to me.
i haven't got my APC also. am i in deep shit? i am not going to get confirmed!! i am not going to get my master!! will i become a chronic MO or a locum freak?? selling ramli burger perhaps really is the only way out. aiyo... please la. Relax first, afterall life isn't just about carreer (hope i am not the only one think like this).
read a book during induksi time named ' norwegian wood' japanese author. very interesting but it was in chinese translation. about a sad love story of a young man trapped in between two mentally ill girls. what kind of world it was, full of psychiatric patient! maybe we were all wrong about our living world. they maybe normal that we are abnormal?? anyway,
it is this song that sang by Beatles which also named Norwegian wood. what a japanese know about norwegian wood i wonder. try listen to it!! (you can search the net for it) perhaps you will want to read it one day while you sell ramly burger.
selling ramly burger sound nice. probably will settle for tat.
apc is one big issue.
n for those who wan to check ur full reg (if, like me, havent got anything yet from MMC), call 038831403, talk to cik azlin. but u must know when did ur hospital send in ur application.
(like mine, it was only sent in dec 2004, half a year after completed housemanship.)

yes, putrajaya's number. my operator says they don't have a number yet.
WJ: about your quitting KKM and joining Min of Education plan... i think the problem is not only in the losing of seniority, the bigger issue is whether the Medical Council will recognise the years in Min of Edu for your APC. Remember we have to complete 3+1 years to get our yearly APCs and be able to go private. Well i dunno if quitting KKM early and switching to Min of Education will screw all that. Any ideas?

Of course could always finish compulsory service before transferring yourself. Which actually means you DO NOT have to quit KKM. You can actually transfer between ministry as long as u get the permission from KKM and a job from Education, in that way your seniority is not lost...

Ah... or just quit medicine and go sell Ramly burger... less stress less pain less stupid patients. All they'll want if burger, with or without mayonnaise...

Just watched the Hong Kong Disneyland opening gala on 8TV. Disneyland was definitely one of our 'must-visit places before we die'. It brings out the child in you. Will go again in the future, with our children, if we have the chance.

Thursday, September 29, 2005

....
everyone is busy thinking about post grad. actually there r other options to go into masters:
1. quit KKM, join ministry of education. join uni as their MO so tat u can join the master too. downside: u lose ur seniority if u join back KKM. meanin u wil b stuck in U41 for a long time.
upside: u can apply now. stil hav monthly pay. think it is more of less same salary. tat is wat my boss did, n suggestign tat i do. (n mind u, he is not bumi)
2. private uni do accept trainee lecturer, but calbel counts, (anyoen has any?) , i think UIA is open, (heard it from a fren), as for IMU, saw both ortho n peads also has.
3. wait til ur turn with KKM, applied, get rejected n finally quit KKM to become GP.

n tat is all talks bout the future. funny, y think along the line of medical. think outside the box... there is more than medical life.. n i salute to those who had quit become a doc, n finally regain back the remainings of their pathetic life (forgive me my negative outlook..i see suicide case nearly everyday)

n aunty, KKM no to call is in putrajaya. i do not hav the no now, but if u wan, can send it to u later. there is one officer in charge, n she is rather ok la. not too fussy.

There's actually 2 people using the name Tan in this blog. I'm not sure who the other Tan is but I think it's Hung Tiong. Dunno whether you guys recall that there were actually 6 Tan's in our batch.
Anyway, I haven't even gone for induksi, so I'm actually worse off than you guys. The last one in May, there were not enough MOs in the department, so nobody could go. There's no induksi for us in September. Anyway, even if there was, I couldn't have gone either, because just coming back from exam, cannot take off so soon.
I met a lecturer from IMU about 3 months ago who said IMU offers to sponsor doctors to do their masters in local universities such as UM and later hire them to become lecturers in IMU. Have to be based in Seremban-lah. And I think it's only available for those who want to do internal medicine. Not sure whether they offer for other specialties. So, maybe this is one option for those who want a fast route.
I did not mention earlier that Mong Tieng met with an accident about 2 months ago and suffered ligament injury to her ankle. She has been out of action and is currently back home in Terengganu. Should be coming back to Alor Setar soon though.
carren, who r u trying to call? i may have the number
wen jih, who did u tok 2 to confirm that u have ur pendaftaran penuh?

27/9/05 - still no telephone line to KKM
- no respond from smoke signal
Where is the moment we needed the most
You kick up the leaves and the magic is lost
They tell me your blue skies fade to grey
They tell me your passion's gone away
And I don't need no carryin' on
You stand in the line just to hit a new low
You're faking a smile with the coffee to go
You tell me your life's been way off line
You're falling to pieces everytime
And I don't need no carryin' on
Cause you had a bad day
You're taking one down
You sing a sad song just to turn it around
You say you don't know
You tell me don't lie
You work at a smile and you go for a ride
You had a bad day
The camera don't lie
You're coming back down and you really don't mind
You had a bad day You had a bad day
Well you need a blue sky holiday
The point is they laugh at what you say
And I don't need no carryin' on
life's like that...
so it is not surprising people going for greener pasture...
good luck lee kien&seowvoon venturing to west....for breaking de norm..de option is very enticing ....but...do i have the guts to try my luck there..?
btw, found a house to rent in KK as in Kota Kinabalu not Klinik Kesihatan...transferring there in a month time..
I survived DISTRICT posting$#$%^
so, do come and visit sabah u guys!

My friend's friend came back to malaysia 3 years after completing her undergrad under JPA in UK. She had no trouble getting the hosp and posting of her choice which was traumatology in UH and now she is in masters prog within 6 mths in malaysia.

my question is, how did she do it without getting confirmation (didn't even go for induction) and at light speed )without 1+3?

it's because she is not one of "us".

life sucks.

Have you noticed how accurately the nurses, MA, office clerks know exactly which day of the month the gaji is out? Noticed how long the queue is at ATMs on gaji days? I know of nurses, MAs, attendants who have only RM20-50 left in their savings by the 20th of the month. Ever noticed what canggih handphones the attendants own (specialists still use the good'ol solid Nokia3310). Maybe that's an example where the gaji all went, plus at places like Courts Mammoth, direct sales products, kenduri for all occasions. Maybe the education ministry should integrate some financial literacy topics in Kemahiran Hidup in school.

Seok Hong: I meant that, as independent applicants, we qualify to apply for Master programs one and a half years after our MBBS graduation. That means we are eligible NOW. The program will still take 4 years. If we join now, it will mean that we don't have cuti belajar from KKM, which means we must quit and lose the monthly salary. No salary for 4 years, and on top of that, we still have to pay the school fees on our own. Not a viable option. As for exactly how much the fees, i don't know. I asked Prof Liam about this last year when he was still head of Postgrad Studies.

If we join Masters via the usual route, i.e. after completing 1+3 years, passing induksi, and getting the study leave approved by KKM, we will still get our gaji, plus KKM will pay for school fees. But we are legally bonded to govt for 7 years after completing postgrad studies. Then during that, our fates for subspecialty opportunity will be in the hands of 'Dato Dr so and so' in KKM. A physician, Dr Ismayatim, in Hospital Alor Star got sent to a Gastro & Hepatology subspecialty training for 1 year in Australia when he was still in the gazettement year. Whereas 'others' are still waiting for years for their chance of subspecializing. There is a Mr Zamyn orthopedic spine surgeon from Hospital Alor Star, now in Sungai Buloh - had one year training in Australia and now thinks he is god. He is also a pervert. Sadly to say, he was a UM MBBS undergraduate.

The lecturer-training program is entirely different ... I am not sure of the details, but I know that they don't accept 'us'. There are exceptions though, I don't what procedure or what strings to pull to get it ... I know that Chan Kin Hup is in a UIA lecturer program, and Athena is in Unimas lecturer program. And of course there is our Rebecca in the physiology program as informed by Anas. I guess we need to ask insiders about how to get these opportunities.
gues it is always a hassle for those who wan to do masters. option is always there to quite, but money is a big issue here.
stil trying to get my full reg done (imagine: after 2 years of service) ... last week they told me it is ok.. so expecting it these few weeks. then it is pengesahan perlantikan, then it is pengesahan perjawatan.... now u know y so many staff in ministry office.. they just compile forms

Wednesday, September 21, 2005

KKM just moved to putrajaya... i think. they don't have telephone line yet, i have been told. i think they just plain lazy, no need to answer questions by delaying the process of phone installation.
great input LK,
in addition, even after getting specialist training i e MRCP bla blah.....most of the specialist are still getting U41 pay etc....because....everyone had been so diligently studying Harrisons etc...that we dont read and sit for PTK...
anyone goin for PTK and has the books?...

Tuesday, September 20, 2005

People who are rich enough can quit KKM now and join a U.M. Master program on their own expenses. The Medicine master program only requires 1 and a half year since graduation to join. And if we join the program this way, we aren't bonded for 7 years.

Problem is we NEED the monthly RM2000++ salary, therefore we are subjected to all these redtape under KKM.

Another option for rich people will be quitting KKM now and join a Master program say in NUS. Be like a medical student again. And of course there is this local university lecturer training program, which is out of bounds for most of us.

Well, another issue will be: if we quit KKM now, we will need to join back as U41 after we complete the specialist training. Unless we join Kementerian Pendidikan for good and just stay in UM. I wonder what are the requirements to get an APC if we are under Kem Pendidikan.

But we are all not that rich to consider all those options.
hi guys
sorry got to break your bubbles....even if masters eligibility has been shorten to 3 years in service instead of the current 4 years in service requirement, i doubt we can get our pengesahan dalam jawatan in time.
help me out in this guys, if u know a way to shorten the application.

you see, i did induksi in april, which most of us did the same time i presume. i have yet to get my cert for the induksi. and i asked my jabatan kesihatan negeri...takes freaking 6 months to 1 year to get the cert!

thereafter, need your permanent practising cert from MMC..which i also have yet to receive...(have any of you got it yet?) i called the putrajaya MMC...no answer!

only after these 2 documents and surat lantikan (which is the only thing i have), we still need our perakuan from pengarah..which shud be easy...

but, subsequently, need out office pegawai who is in charge to apply for our pengesahan dalam jawatan....a process which involves her to send the application thru the state jabatan kesihatan to the Kementerian...then onli to SPA...then to await the process there in SPA....all of which takes easily 3 months!

as u guys who r planing on taking up masters...pengesahan jawatan is required b4 our ketua jabatan can allow us to apply for masters!

so...really..go figure....

anyway, nd u guys feedback if there is really a faster route.....i.e....under table coffee $....hehehehmuahahahaha

ciaoz!

Some more, on call on the first day I get back (Expected, but was still hoping it wasn't true). Anyway, any of you guys going for Ah Ngou's wedding dinner in Taiping?
